Frances Davis

“Frances Davis loved God and loved people. Her motto in life was, ‘Work hard, be honest and with God’s help, love everybody.’

I had the privilege of getting to know Ms. Davis after she turned 100-years-old. She passed away this last August at the age of 103. On my many visits with her, we would spend hours talking about life or looking over her flower garden.

Ms. Davis was born in 1918 north of Bowling Green, KY, and still remembers when there was no Interstate 65 to Louisville, but only Highway 31 — which was a dirt and gravel road. She remembers when the road was paved for the very first time when she was 5-years-old.

She attended Western Kentucky University where she eventually received a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Education and Counseling. For 40 years, she taught in the Bowling Green public school system. Many students of hers kept in touch even after her 100th birthday.

Ms. Davis grew up going to various churches and was baptized when she was 11-years-old. Later in life, the SDA Church in Bowling Green held evangelistic meetings where Ms. Davis and her husband, Buford, attended. The couple was convicted. She attended Bowling Green Church for 47 years. Later, she moved her membership to the Sandhill Church where she remained a member until her passing.

Ms. Davis believed in the importance of education and evangelism for people to have a fuller life in Jesus. She took the time to have a Last Will and Testament prepared to be sure that the causes God had placed on her heart would benefit from the possessions God had blessed her with. She now rests in Jesus but her legacy lives on.

One of our last conversations was about the new Heaven and Earth where she shared with me the following message:

‘I don’t know what the new Heaven and Earth will be like,’ Ms. Davis said. ‘I have often heard preachers talk about it and paint a rosy picture, but we can’t begin to know what it is like. I just know at the end, when I get there, it will be alright and perfect for me.’”
