“I was practically born in the church. I was around 11 years old when I was baptized. Even as a child, I would preach, give Bible studies, attend camp meetings. Things like that.
When I was 17 years old, I moved to the United States and that's when I went astray from Christianity. I made friends with people who introduced me to drinking, parties and everything I didn't do before. That brought me a lot of problems. I was arrested. I got a DUI. I was in shootings and car accidents. It was a very hard ordeal, but the Lord never left me.
I knew that I was not doing the right thing. There was always a voice inside of me that said ‘What are you doing? You are a child of God.’ That voice never abandoned me, even when I tried to ignore it. Every time I decided to have a drink or go to a party, the voice was there.
My family and my church prayed for me. I think that when God's people pray fervently, it makes a difference. I came back to the church because God intervened in my life. He said, ‘No, this is as far as you will get. Turn around.’ And it was a resounding change – a 180 degrees turn. Now, I live better. There are always problems, but with Christ the problems have a solution because I learned that this world has nothing to offer.”
