How I Met My Husband: Lisa shares that she met her husband John while waiting tables together in Nashville. He was raised Nazarene and was attending Tribeca College and I was raised in no particular church but was in school learning to be a medical assistant. We were married June 28, 1986. Together we have five children.

How I Became an Adventist: Although my parents taught me to pray and I had praying grandmothers, I was not raised an Adventist or in a home where church was a weekly routine. I would catch the closest church bus to my home and go alone to whichever church I could. I was baptized at the age of eleven. Then at the age of sixteen I became a vegetarian after reading and studying on my own that this was a healthier way of life. Often while waiting tables I’d have customers mention they were vegetarian and when I would tell them I was also, I’d be asked if I was a Seventh-day Adventist–this was the first I’d heard of the denomination. I was a single mother with two small boys when God gave me the desire to live in the country, so I settled in the small town of White Bluff, Tennessee. As it turns out the wife of my neighbor couple had been raised an Adventist but had drifted away. As we learned of each other’s stories, God used me to bring her back to church along with the conversion of her non-Adventist husband; and He used her to bring me to a knowledge of the Seventh day Adventist church. It was after attending an evangelistic series in Ashland City by Elder Ralph Ringer that I joined the SDA church along with John in February 1988.

What I Like to Do for Fun: As a family we enjoy cooking, storytelling, and quiet time in nature by the ocean or in the mountains.

Favorite Bible Promise: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
