“How I came to the church is a funny story. I had been attending a nondenominational church for about 10 years. I don't doubt the church I went to because they introduced me to Jesus, but one day you realize, ‘okay, that’s not the limit.’
I'm a note taker. I would always take notes when my pastor would preach, writing down the verses and lessons. I noticed over the years that he was giving fewer verses. I would study my notes and only see two or three verses. It made me feel a burden in my heart.
During this time, I was living in a fifth wheeler parked in my in-laws’ driveway. Around Superbowl, my husband wanted to bring his TV in. I was like, ‘no way,’ but eventually I said, ‘fine, just for the Superbowl.’ That didn't happen, and the TV stayed.
One morning after I took my daughter to school, I came back home and wanted to watch TBN. I turned on the channel, but it was the worst. It was static with white noise. You could kind of see but if you stared too long you got a headache. I got mad because I wanted to watch TV that day. So, I started flicking through more channels and came across Amazing Facts. I said to myself, ‘well, this is better than nothing.’ So, I laid there and listened. I kept watching and watching till I was almost late for work.
The next day I did the same thing. I took my daughter to school, came back home, and turned on the TV to Amazing Facts. But this time I started taking notes. The show lasted an hour, and I had three pages full of verses. When the show was over, I turned off the TV, got my Bible out, and reviewed the whole thing. I wrote down the verses and how it related to me. I learned so much more in just that one show than I had learned the whole 10 years going to my old church.
If someone asked me to describe it, I would say that when you’re shown more you realize you were just eating breadcrumbs. From that one session watching Amazing Facts I felt like I was served a feast. I studied with Amazing Facts for about four years before I went to an Adventist Church. My first Sabbath attending the church I was overwhelmed with the fellowship and all that I learned.”
